High Court Judges Welcome PJ Abodo in Style

The gardens of Imperial Golf View Hotel in Entebbe came alive this evening as Judges of the High Court hosted a warm dinner to welcome Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo in her new role as the Principal Judge. The gathering, held on the sidelines of the Quarterly Performance Review Retreat, offered an opportunity for the judges to relax, reconnect and celebrate one of their own rising to the Judiciary's third-highest office.

Lady Justice Abodo, visibly moved by the gesture, said being celebrated by her colleagues was deeply humbling. She thanked the judges for their support and camaraderie, noting that after months of intense work, sharing laughter and light moments was both necessary and refreshing.

"Thank you so much for this. This is the time to joke, to interact. We have worked so hard; we need moments like these to relax a bit," she said.

Speaking during the do, Supreme Court Justice, Justice Christopher Madrama, reflected on the significance of such moments. He noted that the evening provided "a moment to unwind," emphasising that true connections among colleagues are not defined by status but by genuine human warmth.

"We need to feel the heart and the warmth of people, even when it comes in the form of criticism," he said. "It gives me great joy to see Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo as Principal Judge. It has been a great journey, and we thank God for how far He has brought you. There are hundreds of people, but why you? That is something to celebrate."

Justice Madrama also commended the heads of Divisions and Circuits, noting that the demands placed on High Court judges in Uganda are immense compared to many jurisdictions. He encouraged the judges to use the dinner to unwind and appreciate the extraordinary dedication within their ranks.

The Acting Chief Registrar HW Pamella Lamunu Ocaya also extended appreciation to those who attended, observing that some of the strongest bonds are formed around shared meals. She encouraged the judges to fully immerse themselves in celebrating her appointment.

The evening was moderated by HW Prossy Katushabe, Registrar High Court.
